Frequently asked questions
What are Xylitol and Hydroxyapatite? What about the rest of the ingredients?
Xylitol is a natural sweetener and sugar alternative that XYNAMEL sources from corn cobs, which is more sustainable than the alternative source of birch trees. It is low-calorie and low glycemic index, so it is a common and safe additive to food and drinks. The lesser-known benefit is that bad oral bacteria like S. Mutans cannot digest it, and so such bacteria are inactivated and killed in the mouth upon contact with xylitol, thus leading to less plaque, fewer cavities, and fresher breath.
Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring compound of calcium and phosphate. In fact, more than 96% of your enamel is made up of it. XYNAMEL sources hydroxyapatite from the shells of mussels, rather than other common sources like egg shells or animal bones. When introduced in tiny particle size within the mouth, teeth can actually uptake hydroxyapatite to remineralize and rebuild on a micro and nano scale. Beyond that, hydroxyapatite can inhibit bad bacteria from attaching to your teeth, making it an excellent 1-2 punch when combined with xylitol.
Everything else:
Natural Flavour to make the delicious and new XYNAMEL formulations that you love.
Gum Arabic serves as the binding base to combine the active ingredients and is naturally sourced from Acacia trees.
Magnesium Stearate is a non-toxic powder used in trace amounts to form the ingredients into a compact dry tablet form, and not stick to the mint-making equipment.
Who should use Xynamel?
Short answer - Anyone with or without teeth, of any age above 5. The benefit of reducing harmful bacteria in your oral microbiome with xylitol and hydroxyapatite throughout the day is hugely beneficial.
Some populations that XYNAMEL is particularly beneficial for:
- New Moms - Research shows that due to the inevitable exchange of saliva from mom to baby, frequent xylitol use by new moms makes for a healthier oral and gut microbiome within their babies.
- Toddlers / Preteens / Teens - Having your kiddos (no matter the age) routinely and thoroughly brush and floss is a real and common pain point, and so adding XYNAMEL to their routine can make up for the spots that may be missed or the nights of falling asleep on the couch.
- People with Braces / Invisalign / Dentures / Other Appliances - XYNAMEL can help to lower the buildup of plaque and bacteria in/around your oral appliances, thus leading to decreased cavity prevalence in the teeth supporting them.
- Frequent Travellers - Whether you are driving, flying, or taking a train, staying on top of your oral hygiene can be forgotten, and here at XYNAMEL we completely understand. Rather than running into road-trip or flight breath (which nobody loves), pop in XYNAMEL to give yourself a refresh and rid bad bacteria in the mouth. The active ingredients will decrease the fuzzy feeling on your teeth while giving you minty fresh breath.
- People with Dry Mouth, Xerostomia, Halitosis and/or Smokers - XYNAMEL can stimulate the flow of your saliva, and our active ingredients combine with saliva to undo bad breath and bacterial accumulation from dryness. Never worry about getting up close and personal again.
- Mobility Issues Causing a Hard Time Brushing / Flossing - As long as there isn't a choking risk, XYNAMEL is a great addition for those who have trouble maintaining their oral health regimen, whether it is due to injury or systemic condition. We have your back!
How should I add XYNAMEL to my daily routine? When should I use it?
XYNAMEL is a welcome addition to any existing brushing and flossing regimen, no matter how thorough (or not) it is. Throughout the day, if you feel like your mouth needs a refresh and you need a tasty, healthy pick-me-up, pop a XYNAMEL or two. You can repeat this as much as you see fit throughout the day, whether it is a day full of extracurriculars, networking, or having fun! Doing so will keep your oral microbiome in check, your teeth free from cavity-causing bacteria, and your breath as fresh as can be.
Note - in excess (more than 10 per day), xylitol can act as a mild laxative. If you find yourself in this scenario, simply reduce your intake to fit your personal limit.
IS this safe around pets?
Xylitol is indigestible for our little furry friends! Please ensure you are keeping your XYNAMEL tins out of the access of cats, dogs, and other household pets. If XYNAMEL is ingested by your pet, consult a veterinarian immediately.
